Nothing can indeed make you feel more sexy, empowered and ready to take on the world than slipping some beautiful lingerie on. Delicate in nature and often investment pieces in your wardrobe, follow our five steps to washing silk, lace and delicate intimates to keep them looking beautiful (and you feeling sassy) for years to come.

What you need:

  1. A laundry detergent specifically made for washing delicates like our Wool and Delicate Wash
  2. A delicates wash bag
  3. Stain remover

It's important to note that laundry liquids made for delicates are not a gimmick. Delicate formulas contain many of the same ingredients as a regular enzymatic laundry detergent, however, in the case of our Wool and Delicate Wash, the enzymes have been restrained a little. This is so the formula will work on stains (many of which are protein-based), but won't attack natural and delicate fibres like wool, silk and lace (also made from protein). The Wool and Delicate Wash is still powerful but a little less versatile to keep your delicates in one piece.

How to wash lingerie:

  1. Sort your delicates by like colours and then by structure and detail. Non-wire, cotton and sports bras can go into the washing machine, whereas underwire, lace and pushup bras should always be washed by hand.

  2. Treat any stains and remove body oils, make-up or bodily fluids by spot treating with Stain Remover. Spray directly on the area and allow it to work for a few minutes (between 5 and up to 30).

  3. Hand wash your delicate lingerie by filling a washtub or basin with cold or warm water and 4 pumps of Wool and Delicate Wash. Submerge and gently wash each item, soaking for up to 30 mins. Rinse under water until the water runs clear. Make sure you don't wring your lingerie.

  4. Run a delicate cycle for your bras and undies that you sorted earlier that are OK to go into the machine. Make sure you fasten any clasps and wash in a delicates bag so they don't get twisted, snagged or torn in the machine. Add the appropriate amount of wool and delicate wash depending on your load size (4 pumps for a regular load, 5 for a large load).

  5. Line dry your delicates by laying them flat to help them retain their shape. Never put lingerie in the dryer as it can affect the elasticity in your garments. If you’re washing sports bras, heat can negatively affect their moisture-wicking ability.
